Family Barbecue Invaded By Cannibalistic Coconut Crabs

Image
Amy Luetich/Christmas Island Tourism/Facebook As an Australian family tried to rustle up a BBQ, they soon faced an invasion of massive cannibalistic coconut crabs. Think back to opening to The Lost World: Jurassic Park . As a wealthy group descend upon the island, a little girl wanders off to explore. Soon, she comes up against near-hundreds of flesh-eating, nippy dinosaurs. This is exactly like that. Well, not exactly. This family had to deal with an abundance of coconut crabs – the largest land crustacean in the world, measuring up to a metre wide – but they’re actually relatively harmless, and don’t have a taste for humans like those little dinosaurs did. Amy Luetich/Christmas Island Tourism/Facebook Amy Luetich and her family, along with a few friends, were camping on Christmas Island, a picturesque location off the west coast of Australia. When they tried to fire up the barbeque, the enchanting smell of meat brought in some unwelcome visitors. The deputy principal explained ...

NASA Warns Newly-Spotted Asteroid Will Pass Closer To Earth Than Weather Satellite

Image
Pixabay NASA has spotted a new asteroid, which is set to fly by Earth at a closer distance than a weather satellite.  The vast expanse of space, the great unknown, the incomprehensible vacuum, space is one of the most inhuman environments imaginable, inhospitable and dangerous, with asteroids soaring past our humble abode more than we probably know. Of course, it’s not our job to worry about what soars above the atmosphere. That honour lies with the international space agency, who just recently spotted an asteroid that will pass pretty close to us – actually, that’s a slight understatement. The Virtual Telescope Project The asteroid, known as 2020 SW, was noted last Friday, September 18, listed on NASA’s data for NEO Earth Close Approaches . It’s set to fly past us on Thursday, September 24, at 11:18 Universal Time (for folks in the UK, that’ll be around 12:18). For more information on converting UT to your timezone, click here . BBC Presenter Says He Doesn’t Like Rick Astley While He’s Listening In On-Air

Image
BBC When a BBC weatherman said he didn’t like Rick Astley, he just wanted to tell us how he’s feeling. Unfortunately, the singer was actually listening in on-air. He isn’t for everyone. If you’re not into 80s music, Astley isn’t the pop star you’re looking for. If you’ve spent any significant period of time on YouTube, chances are you’ll have been ‘RickRoll’d’ once or twice. As Matt Taylor finished up his weather report on this morning’s BBC Breakfast programme, Charlie Stayt asked him if he was a Rick Astley fan. It’s fair to say, he should have chosen his answer more carefully. Check out the weatherman’s hilarious blunder below:  He initially replied: ‘Eh, not a massive one.’ Stayt then said: ‘Well, that was the wrong thing to say. He’s listening and he’s coming up in just a moment. I’ll ask you again, are you a Rick Astley fan?’ Taylor, looking a little embarrassed, then said: ‘Love Rick Astley. Best. Grew up with him.’ Stayt replied: ‘Great, he’s coming up next so he’ll...

Guys Climbing Iceberg Narrowly Avoid Being Crushed When It Flips

Image
ViralHog When two men tried to climb an iceberg in the middle of the sea, they had a brush with death after it flipped, nearly crushing them. Mike Horn is globally renowned for his exploration antics, going on crazy treks in some of the coldest places on Earth. However, after 30 years of seeing the world, his latest adventure nearly ended in disaster. Most people will never see an iceberg up close. For many, they’ll remain to the confines of Planet Earth , Instagram and Titanic . For the Frenchman, however, they’re something to climb. Check out the video of Horn’s ill-fated iceberg climb below:  In a clip that’s sure to get your palms sweating, Horn and teammate Fred Roux hop off a boat as they’re sailing around Svalbard, an archipelago between mainland Norway and the North Pole. As they attach themselves onto the huge iceberg, using spiked climbing boots and poles to help them ascend it, all seems well as the boat moves away to capture a wider shot. ViralHog However, in a...
